I am trying to configure LDC1614EVM software for some initial testing, but it repeatedly connects and disconnects. Tried reinstalling software as well as the drivers, but no avail. Any support on this is quite helpful...

Hello,

Have you tried reflashing the firmware? It's possible that your EVM has out of date firmware. If you are unable to flash the firmware using the instructions in section 2.9 of the User's Guide, you can use this method: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/295036#Q36

Up to date firmware can be found in this folder: C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.10.0\EVM Firmware\LDC1614_RevB

Just to clarify, you have not made any physical changes to the EVM, correct?

Hi Kristin,

Many thanks for the reply. I used the EVM as it is without any physical or firmware changes. The circuit diagram shown in the blog is for 1612 and what I have is 1614. R2 and C29 is shown below. Are these the points I should connect together?

I did connected the R2 and C29. Now the status on EVM GUI tool is "SSP EVM Disconnected" all the time.

Hello,

Yes, R2 and C29 are the correct nodes to short together. These components are on the MSP430 side of the EVM, which is identical in both the LDC1614 and LDC1612 EVMs.

It is normal for the EVM to stay disconnected when R2 and C29 are shorted. Now that you have connected them, follow the process described in the user's guide to flash the firmware again, then disconnect R2 and C29 once the firmware has successfully uploaded.

Hi,

I have tried to upload the firmware several times as outlined in section 2.9 of the users guide, and it fails to upload it. Do you think something is not right about this board?

Hi RW,

I don't think you need to give up on this EVM just yet. Can you share a screenshot of the failure you are seeing? In addition, could you verify which firmware file you are uploading?

Hi Kristin,

Thanks for the reply. I used EVM_LDC1614_RevB.txt and also tried Rev A for once - none of them work. The user guide says it should not take more than a minute, but in my case it takes forever. Therefore, I stopped it, started the GUI, and tried again. This went on 2-3 times now.

Hi RW,

Try disconnecting R2 and C29. Plug the EVM into your computer, then short R2 and C29, then disconnect them. Then try uploading the firmware again (RevB is correct).

Also please try multiple USB cables just to be sure that this isn't the problem.

Hi Kristin,

I tried this method using (a) the same and (b) another usb cable. Once I disconnected R2 and C29, the EVM GUI status was connected, but it starts disconnecting. Is there anything, we can do to fix the issue?

Hi RW,

Is the firmware upload successful, but the EVM still has connectivity issues? Or are the connectivity problems preventing you from uploading the firmware?

Hi RW,

That's very odd. You should be able to upload the firmware even when the GUI does not recognize the EVM. Could you verify that the EVM is in BSL mode? The firmware update may not work if it is not in BSL mode. You can check that using the steps in this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/676974

The thread I linked also has some additional suggestions to try to fix this issue. Please let me know if any of them work for you.

Hi Kirstin,

The post says: "If it is not in BSL mode it will show up as EVM under the COM ports". Yes, in this case the EVM shows under the COM ports, that means it is not in BSL mode. The post does not show how to set it into BSL mode.

I have lost the interest of this device now.

Hi Roshan,

It could help to order a new EVM. Normally these EVMs are very simple to get working. It's unusual to have persistent connectivity issues.
