Hi,

Now we want to use beamforming technique on AWR1843 EVM.I have some doubts about beamforming technique.

The first question is which direction is the steering ange θ relative to as belows.

The sencond one is what is the angle of the beamforming? Is it 2*θ? Or is it other value?if it is other value,what is its value?

The third one is are the steering angle and the beam angle the same thing? If not,for different steering angle, the beam angle is the same,is that right?

The final question is about the computation of the tx phase shifter.There are 3 Tx antennas on the AWR1843 EVM,two azimuth antennas and one elevation antenna.When computing the phase shifter,the following formula is used:

There are only two azimuth antennas on the AWR1843 EVM, Tx0 and Tx2,if I want to use beamforming ,I just need to configurate the two antenna, is that right? Or are the three antennas needed to set? If yes，how much should the dx value be?λ or 2λ？

Hi Jitendra，

I have read the app-note, it is a reference about AWR1243P Cascade Radar RF development kit.Now I test the demo on my board AWR1843 EVM.It has two azimuth antennas and one elevation antenna as below.If I want to using the beamforming technique with the three antennas,how should I compute the phase shifter value for the three antennas, especially for the elevation antenna Tx2?

Rata,

Using the TX2 in the AWR1843BOOST for the TX beamforming does not increase the coherent gain as it is in the elevation direction. The coherent gain(20log(Ntx)) is found to be same when using both 3TX simultaneous and 2Tx simultaneous operations.

If you design your board with all the 3TX antennas in the azimuth angle then you will be able to use the TX beamforming with all the 3TX antennas and compute the phases as indicated in the formula.
