AWR1243: Antenna Calibration of AWR1243

Part Number: AWR1243

Hi

Let me ask questions of antenna calibration for AWR1243P cascade.

TI expert introduced procedure in the following thread.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/p/832764/3095455#3095455

The thread told the following document.

http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduen5/tiduen5.pdf

①First question: What it interpolation factor? Could you tell me how to calculate it for me?

The document says "Iinterp is the interpolation factor used for frequency calibration that is further explained in the next section"  on 3.3.2.1 section, but I was not able to find it in the next section.

②Second question: Antenna calibration should be done on individual basis? Or is it per design of prototype?

Thanks

Yudai

  • Hello Yudai,

The calibration is typically done for every individual sensor.

We will get back to you on the interpolation factor.

    Regards,

    Vivek

  • Hi Vivek

    Thank you for your reply.

    >The calibration is typically done for every individual sensor.

Oh, okay. So it means that if it is going to mass-produce radar, is it necessary to do antenna calibration each individual?

Regarding interpolation factor, I will wait for your reply.

    Thanks

    Yudai

  • Hello Yudia,

      >Oh, okay. So it means that if it is going to mass-produce radar, is it necessary to do antenna calibration each individual?

Yes, typically this is commonly done for radar sensors to achieve better performance.

     >Regarding interpolation factor, I will wait for your reply

I_interp is the interpolation factor used for frequency calibration. Here interpolation is applied to improve frequency calibration accuracy.

We will correct the document. Thank you for pointing this out.

    Regards,

    vivek

  • Hi Vivek

    Thank you for your reply.

    >Yes, typically this is commonly done for radar sensors to achieve better performance.

    Okay, I got it. Thanks

    >I_interp is the interpolation factor used for frequency calibration. Here interpolation is applied to improve frequency calibration accuracy.

I understand that interpolation factor is needed to improve frequency calibration accuracy.

Could you tell me the formula to calculate interpolation factor?

If we should wait for the release of document, could you tell me when the document will be released?

We'd like to know it to design FPGA development.

    Thanks

    Yudai

  • Hi Vivek

    Thank you for your reply.

I 'd like to know formula of interpolation factor, if it is needed to improve frequency calibration accuracy.

    Thanks

    Yudai

  • Hello Yudai,

In our processing code we use an interpolation factor value of 5. The larger value you use the better frequency accuracy but it comes at a cost of taking up larger memory.

    Regards,

    Vivek
