TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: Sensors forum

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Hi,

In another thread, I had explained how I was not getting consistent ToF measurements when the transducer was mounted on the outside wall of the container. While playing with two sensors to get differential ToF, immersed them in the medium (water) and then, placed them on the outside walls of the container. The ToF readings that started clocking inside the container continued even the two transducers were outside. Is this a restriction of the EVM that we have to start by placing the transducers inside the container? My application is for flow rate and the two transducers were to be mounted to the outside wall (non-intrusive). Kindly clarify this issue.

Regards,

A N Arunkumar

  • Arunkumar,

I will get back with you before this friday.

  • Arunkumar,

The EVM can send the signals/drive the transducers with voltage of upto 3.6V. However when the transducers are clamped on they may not be coupled tightly with the pipe and any air gap between the pipe and the transducer can create losses in the transmission of ultrasound.

I suggest that you first clamp on the 2 transducers without any water in the pipe and check the COMPIN or Rx pin signals to check if there is any signal that is in the receive path. If there is no signal in the COMPIN i suggest you first ensure that there is a tight connect between the transducer and the pipe.

Next we can try to increase the number of transmit pulse to see if that extra pusles/energy can penetrate the pipe.

  • Bharat,

    Thanks, noted.

Would there be a need to increase the transmit energy / power? If so, any guidance on it?

    Regards,

    A N Arunkumar

  • Arunkumar,

Whenever a transducer transmit the ultrasonic signal and we do not receive any signals at the other end at such times we check for the following:

    1. If the transducers are mounted properly ( ie. orientation & no air gap between the transducer and the medium in use.

    2. Increase the in number of transmit pulse

    3. Try to increase the transmit energy ie. Voltage. Since the more the attenuation the more the energy can help in getting a receive pulse.
