HDC2080: Do you have any data on the time constants of temp sensors?

Part Number: HDC2080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC2010

Hello,

I was wondering about the difference in step response between the HDC2080 and HDC2010 in ambient air. Do you guys have any data on this?

Thanks,

Jason

  • Hi Jason,

The thermal response specification for the HDC2010 and HDC2080 is given in the EC table for both devices as 8 seconds. This value is the time constant for the sensor.

The actual value in application is hard to specify because things like air flow, layout, and mechanical design of any enclosure around the sensor will change the actual response. In general though, the thermal response is better when the sensor and board are more in contact with the air, and isolated from other effects.

    Best Regards,

  • Dear Jason -

thanks for your post - the typical 1 tau time is listed in both datasheets at 8 sec. This means typically the total type for settling would be around 40 seconds. After that, in my experience and observations - if the units are in a controlled ambient environment (like a temp/humidity chamber), the HDC2010 appears slightly faster than the HDC2080, I think due to the difference in package/thermal mass, when stepping the temp up or down like you would when testing over temp.
