IWR1642BOOST: Simulation of antenna

Hello,

I simulated the antenna of IWR1642BOOST. I have find the parameters from Altium Designer files. But the results is different from plot that user's guide provided at 78.5G. I have set RO4835 Dk value 3.44 and Df 0.0037 at 77GHz. But I don't know how it caculated. What made the difference? Whether to caculate copper's Dk and Df at 77G?

Hi Yinxue,

You will need to look at the Rogers datasheet to find the Dk values. In order to see similar results to the datasheet, please make sure you are simulating the entire board, and have the ports placed at the beginning of the antenna trace. Also please set your radiation boundary step size to 1.

Hi Chloe,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have look at Rogers data sheet before. The Dk value at data sheet is gotten at 10G and simulation result with this value is more different. Now I only simulated a TX antenna. Do I need simulate 4RX and 2TX If wanted to get the same result as data sheet ?

Hi Yinxue,

Yes, you will need to simulate the entire board in order to have similar radiation patterns- this includes all rx & txs as well as the entire size of the PCB. If your PCB is different than the EVM, you may see some differences in the radiation pattern.
