IWR6843: How to increase the detected points of IWR6843

Hi,

I want to obtain as many as possible detected points using IWR6843ISK ES1.0 or IWR6843ISK-ODS ES2.0. I tried the area scanner demo on IWR6843ISK ES1.0, but the number of detected points is just up to 40. I want to know by what means I can increase the detected points? Can I achieve this by changing the config file or changing another more appropriate demo or just using a new version demo? The elevation of IWR6843ISK-ODS is larger than IWR6843ISK. Can this significantly increase the number of points ? (Because I have not bought a ODS board, I have no idea about its real performance.)

Dear Jie:

I would suggest is to research and apply the different CLI commands that are documented in the SDK User's Guide; here is the PATH:

<mmWave SDK Install Path>\docs\mmwave_sdk_user_guide.pdf

The algorithm that decides what is a detected point or not is CFAR, and the related CLI command is cfarCfg

Dear Connor,

Justin told me in another thread that the old version of OOB demo is a constrain for obtaining more detected points, I want to know if change config file can alleviate this?

I read the document of pplcount demo, it says IWR6843 can obtain 1000 points in frame. But, actually, I can only get no more than 50 points when I run area scanner demo on IWR6843. So I want to ask how I can get as many as possible detected points using IWR6843. Do you mean I can achieve this by only changing the config file?

And the second question above is not resolved, which is "The elevation of IWR6843ISK-ODS is larger than IWR6843ISK. Can this significantly increase the number of points ? (Because I have not bought a ODS board, I have no idea about its real performance.) "

I mean the "elevation angle" of IWR6843ISK-ODS is larger than that of IWR6843.

Dear Jie:

1. If you want to detect more objects in your scene then you need to lower the CFAR detection threshold. I would also suggest playing around with some of the other configurations as well to see for your particular scene how far you can push the sensor.
