IWR6843AOPEVM: What is a relationship between dynamicaRangeAngleCfg and Azimuth/Elevation resolution?

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOP

Hi community member,

I have a question as below:

1. What is "Capon beam forming" in dynamicRangeAngleCfg?
2. Is there a relationship between dynamicRangeAngleCfg parameter and Azimuth/Elevation resolution (±29/±29 in AoP)?

I don't know well dynamicRangeAngleCfg in detail....

Best regards.

  • Sorry...
    I check "68xx_3D_People_counting" in mmwave_industial_toolbox_4_4_1.

  • HI,

You can look through the following  document to find the detail for each parameter inside dynamicRangeAngleCfg C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_4_1\labs\people_counting\68xx_3D_people_counting\docs\3DPeoplecountingDemo_ConfigurationDetails.pdf

First you need to decide the detectionMethod.  It is suggested that for ISK type of antenna, choose method 1 and use method 2 for AOP/ODS type of antenna.  Please try to use the example configuration file as much as possible.  The memory is very tight, change the angleSearchStep may results in the memory shortage issue.

  • The capon beamforming is type of angle estimation method. You can search for capon beamforming or MVDR method.  Here is one document:

  • Hi Zigand,

    Thank you for your reply!

    >It is suggested that for ISK type of antenna, choose method 1 and use method 2 for AOP/ODS type of antenna

I don't understand the method 2 for AOP/ODS type of antenna.
What is the method 2 in parameter or documents?
I couldn't find the method 2 in detail.

I think that IWR6843AOP's range resolution is decided by physical antenna pattern.
Therefore, there is not relationship between dynamicaRangeAngleCfg and Azimuth/Elevation resolution.
    Is it correct?

    Best regards.

  • HI, there:

You can find the explanation of detection method in the document I mentioned above: C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_4_1\labs\people_counting\68xx_3D_people_counting\docs\3DPeoplecountingDemo_ConfigurationDetails.pdf

Search for rangeAngleEstMethod, you can find the definition for method 1 and method 2.

But you are right, the angle resolution is determined by the antenna design and will not be changed due to different parameter setting inside dynamicRangeAngleCfg.
