IWR6843ISK: Issue in sending configuration for out of the box demo using mmwave demo visualiser

Hi TI Team,

We are using IWR6843ISK + MMWAVEICBOOST, we are trying to run Out of The box demo for generating heatmaps provided by TI using mmwave demo visualiser.

we flashed board with out of the box demo located in "/home/vvdn/ti/mmwave_sdk_03_03_00_03/packages/ti/demo/xwr68xx/mmw" and after flashing we switched to functional mode (removed SOP2).

We tried to configure device using mmave demo visualiser version 3.5 using https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWave_Demo_Visualizer/ver/3.5.0/ but could not configure the device by clicking "SEND CONFIG TO MMWAVE DEVICE" .

Error Occured: incorrect config reported by target , change configuration and try again"

Also we tried to load config (profile_2d.cfg) located in SDK from PC, but no plots observed.

Then we tried to configure device using mmwave demo visualiser version 3.3 using https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWave_Demo_Visualizer/ver/3.3.0/ , we could send the configuration by selecting various plots and heatmaps but we could not see any data in plots. (blank plots)

Please find the below screenshot of mmwave demo visualiser 3.3 which shows blank plots and profiling as undefined.

Please let us know if we are missing any thing.

Hi,

Can you confirm you have an ES2 IC on the EVM

Hi Charles O,

Yes we have (678A, ES2.0) ES2 IC on EVM.

We can give one try with latest SDK as you suggested.

Hi Charles O,

We tried with latest SDK 3.5.0, tried to configure device with 10 fps but could not generate heatmaps.

So we reduced frame rate to 4 fps as recommended by demo visualiser warning. We were able to generate heatmaps.

Then we enabled static cluttering option and set the Azimuth FoV = - 20 to +20 and Elevation to -40 to +40.

May i learn why frame rate need to be less than 5 fps for generating heatmaps?

Please find the attached screenshot for generated heatmaps.

In doppler-range heatmap the red section is observed continuously even after removing static clutter.

In Azimuth-Range heatmaps we could not observe any change even if the object is in front of device.

Could you please help us to understand the heatmaps ?

the bottle neck here is the UART speed and the amount data that needs to be parsed. see related link below for more details

We tried to generate heatmap by keeping antenna in Modular mode also with default configuration and 4 fps frame rate in mmwave demo visualiser using mmwave adk_03_05_00 OOB demo.

Able to generate both heatmap with "remove static clutter" option disabled.

then we enabled "Remove static cutter" we are not able to get Azimuth-Range heatmap.

Could you please guide us on this?

Hi,

I tried this and got the same result.

My previous comment that " Disabling static clutter setting will not change Heatmap" is actually wrong. heat map is the static heatmap so enabling static clutter removal and enabling the heat map will not provide any useful information

The plot on the edged of the heatmap should be disregarded

Hi Charles O,

We are little unclear about the "remove static clutter" and heatmap relation.

We don't want reflection from static object for our use case, so we are trying with enabling that option.

Hi,

The azimuth heat map as implement in the demo show static object, if you need the heat map and also need to remove static clutter then you need to implement a computation.

We would like to know what is parameter mentioned in below graph as z e.g. (z = 3427). what does that mean?

can we get reference code to do our custom heatmap plot generation?
