MMWCAS-DSP-EVM: No communication over the serial port nor the ethernet

Hi,

I followed steps described in MMWAVE STUDIO Cascade User Guide and https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/916106.

I set the baud rate 115200, flashed the sdcard several times, tried using another sdcard and checked the booting switches on the board.

When board is connected to the PC two serial ports are appearing and I am connecting to the lower port, but I cannot communicate with the board over the UART.

When I start the serial communication overt PuTTY, FTDI_TX LED turns on, and it stays on and nothing appears on the screen. I tried the reset the boards using push buttons and disabling/enabling power but it also did not help (but all relevant power LEDs are turning on). Similarly, I also cannot communicate over the ethernet, ethernet status LEDs are always off.

Is there something I am missing? any help will be appreciated.

I also want to note, 3.3V&5V Power Good and DDR3 1.35V LEDs are also off.When I measured the voltages on the board, I get 1.4V instead of 5V on system 5V pins. I get 3.3V as expected on system 3.3V pins.

I am using 12V, 5A power supply, as recommended.

If PMIC or similar component is broken, is there a chance for change?

Hello Emir,

Please make sure you are following the procedures outlined in the user guide very closely.

Also, have you verified if your FTDI virtual com-port drivers are up to date? As Randy has mentioned in the previous thread, sometimes it is necessary to manually remove old enumerations periodically for new connections to function properly.

Have you also verified the TDA2 bootmode selector switches (S4) settings?(for TDA2 SD-card boot)

See the MMWCAS-DSP-EVM user guide section 2.6.2 "switches" (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruis6/spruis6.pdf#page=18)

Usually following the instructions step by step from the user guide is enough to boot up the board. If you're unable to even see the UART boot log and get to the login prompt, then it might be possible that the board is damaged.
