Hi TI Team,

Can you please let me know, if the BEAM formation of AWR1642 is like the attached image(circled in Black Color)?.

Is the AWR1642 beam is eliptical one? Do i need 3 AWR1642 to cover the complete front side of the car?

The reason is as we are evaluating the AWR1642 using the EVM and we have initially fixed inside the left hand side of the car dashboard, we observed that the radar doesn't always detect the vehciles on the right(like Cars, MotorBikes), Can you please correct me, if my observation is wrong.

Hi,

The Beam is a property of the antenna design. It is possible to design an antenna with a narrow beam and it is possible to design an antenna with a wide beam.

For the AWR1642BOOST antennae a helpful document is the EVM UG

Figure 12 shows you the Antenna Gain Pattern.

Please look at the Horizontal Plane.

If you consider the peak and go down by 5dB, you will notice that this corresponds to about +/-40deg.

So to cover 160deg you will need two sensors
