Hi,
I'm using the Vehicle Occupancy Detection demo. I've compiled and ran correctly this application with the MMWAVEICBOOST+IWR6843AOPEVM. I have an issue when I try to launch demo with IWR6843AOPEVM in standalone mode.
I have flashed correctly the code by using the USB J1 of the IWR6843AOPEVM, by the way when I switch the sensor in functional mode and launch the GUI, the GUI remains blocked in the opening PORT phase.
Here the configuration of the IWR6843AOPEVM board in standalone mode:
It's not clear for me where is the problem and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Stefano Cirelli
Hi Stefano,
Have you downloaded the user guide from here: https://www.ti.com/tool/IWR6843AOPEVM
Starting with section 4.4, it shows the switch settings for proper stand-alone operation. Please check that all switches are correct. You can check it quickly by opening a TeraTerm window to the User port and checking for the VOD prompt.

Hi Dave,
All the switches are in the correct state.
I have tried to use a serial terminal but it doesn't work. On the terminal of TeraTerm I cannot see any prompt from the board (the speed was set to 115200).
Regards,
Stefano
Hi Stefano,
Is this an ES1 or ES2 EVM? If ES1, there is additional info here:
http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru546b/swru546b.pdf
An ES2 version is not yet available on ti.com.
You may also try to reset the board after connecting.
LMK if you have success or need the ES2 quick start guide.

Hi Dave,
I think my EVM is ES2... How can i check it? Is there any register that contains this information?
Thanks,
Stefano
Hi Stefano,
Sorry for the delay. It appears you have ES1 (the ES2 EVM is a different shape). The AoP EVM requires a different UART driver (CP210x) when used as standalone. Please check Window's Device Manager to see if your UART ports are fully instantiated. You can download these drivers from Silicon Labs by Googling "cp210x usb to uart driver".
Also, did you try power cycling the board once it is connected to the PC? (of course, this won't help if it's a driver issue).

Hi Dave,
thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the problem persists.
For my purpose I need to use sdk3.3 then I choose to change the device and now I'm going to use the IWR6843ISK-ODS.
You can consider this discussion closed.
Thanks,
Stefano
Very good. If you come back to this, or for other people reading this thread, the next thing to do would be to check the Device Manager. If it doesn't explicitly show port numbers for both of the COM ports, then device driver update needs to be performed a second time, until the Device Manager does show COM port numbers.
