May I use TSU6721 (USB Port Multimedia Load Switch Supporting USB, UART, AUDIO, ID, MIC switch) for I2C switching?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSU6721, TS3USB3031

Hi,

In TSU6721,ball C4/B3/B4 are used for analog audio signal.  Now customer need a mux between UART/USB/I2C and  would like to route the I2C signals (SDA and SCL) on ball C4/B3/B4.  Do you see any concern here?

Thanks!

Antony

  • Antony,

The TSU6721 audio path has enough bandwidth 240MHz to cover I2C 400kHz signals.  However I do not recommend the TSU6721 for a basic mux between UART/USB/I2C application.  The TSU6721 is a highly integrated part with automatic accessory detection and configuration abilities and is overkill for a simple mux application.

To find a switch for this application I used the ti.com switch selection tool.  I used the filters on the left hand side and selected 2 channels (one channel for TX/D+/SDA and one channel for RX/D-/SCL) and 1:3 SP3T configuration.  I would recommend using the TS3USB3031 for your UART/USB/I2C mux application.

    Thank you,

    Adam
