what requirements of an esd device do I need to consider when interfacing with the TS5USBA224 (USB 2.0 + Audio switch)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5USBA224, TPD4E05U06

Dear all:

My customer has a ESD protection question when using TS5USBA224, I search for the related application, I find we normally use the TPD4E05U06, but customer show me a ESD device with the following spec, which seems to have a stronger capability but a higher clamp voltage.

So, could you please help to verify if the following spec can be worked with TS5UBA224?  Thanks very much!

  • Richard,

The TS5USBA224 device is a passive FET switch with a high speed data path and a path that can accept negative signals. This device will only take what ever signal it sees on one and an pass it through to the other end with little distortion.

To determine what type of esd protection you need you need to look at your overall system requirements like voltage ranges, bandwidth, etc. The TS5USBA224 device doesn't have any requirements as far as working with an esd device.

    Thank you,
    Adam
