Helping choosing TTL P Channel MOSFET for switching 12V solenoid

Hello Electrical Engineers,

I am working on a security system that requires a solenoid that is fail secure, which simply means the solenoid will be drawing power only to unlock. Solenoid remains in locked position when drawing no power. It is a 12VDC solenoid that draws 500mA. I am having trouble choosing an appropriate TTL P Channel MOSFET to act as a switch, that will be driven by an microcontroller (ESP32). The output voltage signal is rated at 3.3V that will turn on this MOSFET. If I can get any recommendations that would be great.

Thank you,

Jonathan

  • Jonathan,

The TI signal switches typically only support <500mA through the signal path and the couple of ones that do support that high current will not support 12 V.  You may want to check with the load switch forum of power FET forum.

    Thank you,
