SN74TVC3306: use as a 3.3V <-> 3.3V bidirectional switch

Part Number: SN74TVC3306

Hi, team,

Just need to confirm with you is there any risk if we use SN74TVC3306 as a 3.3V<->3.3V bidirectional I2C switch?

Thanks.

Johnny

  • Johnny,

You may use passive switches like the SN74TVC3306 for I2C signals since the device will support the I2C voltage and bandwidth requirements.  You need to make sure you follow the system requirements for I2C open drain applications like including pull up resistors.

Here is another e2e post with more information on passive switch of I2C signals.

Here is an app note on I2C pull up resistor sizing for reference.

What led you to choose the SN74TVC3306 for I2C application out of the hundreds of switches that can support I2C in the portfolio?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Adam,

Thanks for reply. Previously customer use NXP GTL2002 on their board for I2C 3.3V<->3.3V switch, now they want to use one device with the same package and pinout, and SN74TVC3306 is selected.
So just check with you whether it is okay for use and any risk need to be considered.
    Thanks.

    Johnny
  • Adam,

Do you have some comments for my reply?

    Thanks.

    Johnny

  • Jonny,

Thank you for providing the reason why you are choosing the SN74TVC3306 instead of other options.  I understand that you are needing to replace a competitor device with same pinout and package size.

    Thank you,

    Adam
