SN74CB3Q3257: I2S multiplexer / switch

Part Number: SN74CB3Q3257
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3204, , TS3A5018, TS3A44159

Hi,

I'm trying to share a I2S interface between a TLV320AIC3204 codec and another device, i saw on another posting that a SN74CB3Q3257 switch can be used for switching I2S signals, can this part be used for switching I2S signals between the codec and another device? My voltage levels are 3.3V.

Thanks

  • William,

I2S signals are low speed signals and typically you only need a device with >15MHz bandwidth so almost any signal switch will work.

I2S signals also are 4 data lanes so you would need a 4-channel switch.

Since you are interfacing two devices to one port you will need a 2:1 configuration.

You also mention your voltage levels to be 3.3 V.

Using these 4 statements above about I2S you can filter the TI portfolio on the TI.com switch search tool.

All of these switches could work for you but I like the TS3A5018 because it is the smallest package and has flexibility in voltage supply range incase you move to 1.8V node in the future.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi, thank you for the insight, would this part also worl:

    TS3A44159

This part has a lot lower RDS on and has a BW of 35MHz

    Thanks

  • Willam,

Based on the explanation above what is giving you the doubt that the TS3A44159 will not work for I2S switching? What would give you confidence to more forward so I know how to serve you better on the forum better?

    Thank you,
    Adam
