Because of the holidays, TI E2E™ design support forum responses will be delayed from Dec. 25 through Jan. 2. Thank you for your patience.

TS3L501E: SPDT Application

Part Number: TS3L501E

Hi E2E,

IS Bx NC and Cx NO?

If no input voltage, A - B is connect or not?

  • Julian,

FET switches don't have a normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO) state because there are no moving parts inside the IC.  Weather or not the A pin connects to B or C depends on the voltage on the logic pins SEL and PD.

If there is no voltage on the SEL or PD pins they will float and the A to B/C signal path is undefined and A could connect to either B or C.  To ensure a known state if there is no signal on the control logic SEL and PD pins we recommend placing a weak pull up or pull down resistor to ensure known logic state.

If you would like to have the A to B/C signal path disconnected you can set the PD pin to logic high which will place all the signal paths in Hi-Z.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks for your reply.

    I have one more question.
Our customer want to use SPDT Multiplexer which if no VCC input, IC also had NC, NO function.
    Did TI have this solution?
  • Julian,

No, TI doesn't have a switch that will conduct from the input to output with out power applied to the switch.

Please see the switches and multiplexers FAQ page for more information.

    Thank you,

    Adam
