TMUX1511: Can you please feedback me for switch for SDI video signal on/off?

Part Number: TMUX1511
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX136

E2E,

I need to on and off SDI video signal like upper picture. And this SDI video signal is 3Gbps.

  1. TMUX1511 is available for SDI video signal ? TMUX1511 has 3GHz bandwidth. However, I am not sure it can cover SDI or not.
  2. If TMUX1511 is not available for SDI, can you please let me know any SDI video signal switch? It will be adopted to ONLY SDI on/off.

Thank you,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

For serial digital interface (SDI), the data rates may vary depending on the standard. TMUX1511 has a bandwidth of 3GHz which should be enough for SDI standards with up to a 1.5 Gbps data rate, depending on losses due to PCB traces and margin needed.

Check out this FAQ post that estimates the max data rate of a switch. A rough recommendation we use to determine the bandwidth needed for a given data rate is Bandwidth = (3/2)xDataRate.

If you are using this recommendation, for an SDI standard with a data rate of 3Gbps, we are looking for a switch with at least 4.5GHz bandwidth. TMUX136 is a switch with a 6.1GHz bandwidth, which is a high enough bandwidth to support a data rate of 3 Gbps.

    Regards,

    Kate
