TS3USB221E - MUX 2 Hosts to 1 Peripheral port?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221

Hi,

Would there be a problem with using the TS3USB221 to MUX 2 hosts to a single peripheral device connection? Basically, I want to toggle the host<->slave connection between 2 hosts based on the status of the system.

Regards,

  • Chris,

Yes the switch can be used to allow a single peripheral to be controlled by two different host depending on the switch status.

Please be aware that every time the switch is "thrown" a new connection event will be signalled on the new connected host and the device will go through the enumeration process, including loading the driver.  Depending on the type of device and whether it is a class driver or "custom" driver this could be "silent" or could involve user intervention.

  • Great. Thanks for the reply and the heads up.
