How to copy and rename project in CCS5.0.3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

HI, I'm just trying to copy a project with all of its resources/settings in the Project window to a new name in that same window, but I'm having trouble doing that.  I get error messages saying something about copying resources, and it seems to go into the weeds after that.  With CCS4, I could do a copy -> paste -> change name, and I was done.

Here's what I'm doing now in CCS5.0.3:

Right click/copy in Project window

Right click/paste in Project window

Get a "Copy Project" window with Project name: Copy of Xproject, with a check to "Use default location"

I get a new copy named "Copy of Xproject in Project window

When I try to rename, I get a box that says "New name".  I rename it to NewProject, hit OK

Now I get a box that says:  "Multiple problems have occurred / java.langNullPointerException, Building workspace/Serializing CDT Project settings

To get out of it, I click "X", and although the new copy stays resident, there are errors on build.

What's the correct procedure?  Does it have anything to do with copying resources or something?

Thanks, D.M.

  • Hi D.M.,

you are using a very old unsupported beta version of ccs.  I would recommend moving to the current release (v5.4) and trying again.  I have certainly successfully renamed projects in this version.

  • Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your reply.  Do you know if we can get a (free/unlimited/use forever) license with this?  How to get free one?  I was thinking that the version that we have is the last free version before we had to actually buy one.  Hoping I'm wrong.

    Don

  • Hi Don,

if you have a v4 license with an active subscription, you can upgrade to a v5 license.

Otherwise you have to migrate to one of the v5 license options

    - purchased

    - 90 day trial

    - free use with the xds100

    - code size limited msp430 option

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Thanks for info Lisa.  We have one of the free/use forever CCS4.2 licenses.  This is what I see for CCS5:

    1) 90 Day license

    2) 16KB code size limited license for MSP430

    3) limited use license for XDS100, onboard emulation (DSKs/EVMs/eZdsp/MAVRK...) or simulators. Does not support eZ430.

The 90-day is not an option for us.

We're not using the MSP430, so that's not an option.

We are using the LogicPD OMAP-L138 EVM that includes an XDS100 emulator.

Does that say to you that we could get a CCS5.4 free/(use forever) license for #3?

    Thanks, D.M.

  • Hi Don,

if you use an xds100, yes you may use the free limited license.   My recommendation is to install ccs v5.4 in parallel.  You will see many improvements.

Fully unzip and install from the full installer into a simple directory like c:/myccs

    Please keep us informed,

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • OK, great.  I'll download CCS5.4 and request the xds100-based free-use license.  Will use it with the OMAP-L138 LogicPD EVM/WinCE6.0.  Will get back if any issues.

    Thanks much for help.

    D.M.
