CCS 4.1 release related file locations/availability/web page updates?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I saw the official release announcement for CCS 4.1, but it isn't very clear what the availability of it and especially any related files are in terms of updated download locations.

As for CCStudio itself, the only download page that I'm aware of for the full image release which was said to be available in the 4.1 release announcement is here:

http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/ccstudio.html

http://software-dl-1.ti.com/dsps/forms/self_cert_export.html?prod_no=setup_CCS_4_Platinum.zip&ref_url=http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv4/latest/

But nothing on the page or link indicates whether it is 4.1, it only says 4.1, and "latest".  So I'm hoping that all the links for MCU / Platinum are updated on the download site.

In fact the ccstudio page itself is not reassuring about the updates having been made, since Stellaris support is explicitly disclaimed whereas that is a main feature of CCS 4.1,

so that leads to more doubts about whether that is the right download page (also it doesn't claim support for Windows 7 which I thought CCS 4.1 also brought):

Product versions

  • There are 2 versions of CCS, Platinum and Microcontroller. They differ in the processors they support.
    • Cores Supported
      • Platinum Edition: TMS320C6000, TMS320C5000, TMS320C2800, TMS470, TMS570, ARM 7, ARM9, ARM 11, ARM Cortex M3 (Not including Stellaris Cortex M3), ARM Cortex R4, ARM Cortex A8, and MSP430
      • Microcontroller Edition: TMS320C2800 and MSP430
    • Both CCS Platinum and Microcontroller use the following:
      • Host: PC
      • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista and XP

Stellarisware upades for ccs 4.1:

On the 4.1 beta page, for instance, there was an explicit list of several StellarisWare packages related to the 4.1 Beta, I assume these may also have been

new versions of the Stellaris files specifically to interoperate with CCS 4.1 Beta.  Are the corresponding new Stellaris files now also officially released / updated for

use with CCS 4.1, and if so, are the download links for all the Stellaris components on the regular TI web pages going to now refer to the new versions?

For instance if you look at the Stellaris related web pages you sometimes do not see any explicit version information corresponding to the version available for download

as is the case here, so one is left to wonder if the linked versions are new for CCS 4.1 or not at this time:

http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/sw-lm3s.html

On the "Stellaris Software updates" page the most recent file dates are October 2009 which leads me to think that either this page has not yet been updated or

that the files themselves may not need official updates at this time (in which case I wonder what was different if anything about the StellarisWare for CCS 4.1 Beta files

listed on the CCS 4.1 Beta wiki page):

  • I think I can answer some of my own questions now.

The CCS package versions linked on the ccstudio page seem to be referencing downloads of 4.1 even though it doesn't say it is 4.1, just 4.x latest.  So that's good.

The CCSTUDIO web page's text content itself seems to be out of date, as above.

The StellarisWare versions on the CCS 4.1 Beta page were apparently Version 5451 as inferred from the file names.

The StellarisWare versions actually now available for download on the "Stellaris Software Updates" page seem to be version 5228 dated back to 2009-October, and are presumably

now obsolete and the page presumably has not been updated to reflect any new version 5451 or later release corresponding to CCS 4.1.

The Stellaris kit CD images now linked on TI web pages seem to be Version 480, and I'm from that number being the same as my recollection of what was available a while ago, I am guessing the pages / links for these have also not been updated to reflect the current Stellaris software that is corresponding to what was in the CCS 4.1 Beta page.

It would be sort of nice to have web pages that provided explicit listings of current and historical versions of these software releases along with the release notes, change logs, and options to download whatever versions one needs for cross-compatibility with whatever other tools / libraries / code base one is using that may have version dependencies either on the newer or older versions.

As a tangential question concerning CCS 4.1 and Stellaris support and Stellarisware, I know that until CCS 4.1 Stellaris wasn't supported for CCS, and the Stellaris evaluation kits available were using IAR, Code Sourcery, Code Red, or KEIL tool chains.  Now that CCS 4.1 supports Stellaris will there be CCS toolchain + Stellaris Evaluation Kit version bundles to promote using the CCS toolchain with StellarisWare?  Mostly I'm just trying to figure out if that is considered a mature and equally comprehensively supported development configuration now to the extent that it has been with the other vendors compiler / debugger tool chains.

    Thanks again,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

The wiki page will always have the latest information compared to the CCSTUDIO page. This link was also provided in the announcement post.

StellarisWare version 5451 is the version to be used with CCSv4.1 (both beta and release). It is the first such version to be officially supported by CCS and the first version to be posted on the CCS wiki. The page with the older StellarisWare version has not been updated yet it seems.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Thank you, Ki.

I'm sorry that I missed the hyperlink in the announcement post that you made.  The red text color and font made me think it was just an emphasis / heading section and it didn't occur to me that it was a link that looked unfamiliar to what I'm used to seeing.

Yes, the original link 'Download_CCS' you posted to the wiki download page is much more informative than the main www site's 'ccstudio' page, and indeed the wiki version of the information is exactly what I was looking for including the link to the 'StellarisWare Releases' page about the StellarisWare version to be used and its download locations.

    Thanks,

    Chris

That's a good point. Looking at the post again, I can see how it just looks like I used red font to attract attention (and nothing more). I'll modify the post to be more explicit. Thanks

  • Hello,

When I follow the instructions, I only get CCS4.0 dated Sep09.  I also tried the MCU version and I got a 2Feb10 data which is great but not much good since it is code size limited.

Should I ignore the date stamp on the Platinum ZIP file?

    Thanks,

    David Rankin

  • Got it to work now.

    Thanks!
