CCS6 'Configuring Debugger' takes forever

Hi,

When clicking on Debug a dialog pops out that says Configuring Debugger (may take a few minutes on first launch) but takes forever (>2h).

I'm using ccs6 with windows xp sp3 and following FR5969 LauchPad user guide.

    Surely seems like an issue! Did you go through a smooth CCS v6 installation? No errors or warnings during the process?

    Hi Gautam,

    Installation went fine. While updating through automatic updates there was one component "com.ti.emu.(something)" which failed to install and I was asked to install it manually. I found an installer ti_emupack_setup_5.1.507.0.exe sitting in my ccsv6/installers directory so I installed it from there without problems.
    I reinstalled CCS completely but the problem persists.

    Installation is done in a fresh windows xp sp3 with all security updates applied and gnuwin32 installed and nothing else.

    2h? As in 2 HOURS????

    There is something very wrong if it takes 2 hours. Does it actually ever successfully launch?

    Yes, 2h as in 2 hours.

    And no, it never successfully launched....

    Did you check the same hardware on another PC?

    Ben - Can you turn on debug server logging and then reproduce the issue? Then disable logging and zip and attach the log here.

    You don't need to wait 2 hours when reproducing. Just maybe wait 20 seconds or so after it hangs.

    I've tried on several PCs but CCS is installed in a virtual machine so it probably didn't help much. I use virtual machines to separate IDEs from different vendors, since too many 'make's can prove to be very problematic....

    Ben,

    CCS is hanging the first time it tries to talk to the USB FET.  I suspect there is a virtualization issue with your USB port. Which virtualization software are you using (IE, VMWare, virtualbox, or ....)?  Also, which version of the FET are you using?

    I have never been able to get virtualbox working with the USB FET. I suspect other hypervisors may have problems with the FET too, but I have not personally tested any.

    Hi Andy,

    I'm using VMware. How do I know the version of the USB FET? I'm using MSP430FR5969 EVK.

    I've noticed that an error pops up if the hardware is not connected, but with the hardware connected and showing up correctly in device manager CCS hangs.

    I'll try installing CCS on a host machine directly tomorrow.

    Ben,

    Most developers have the white coloured version of the FET. However, there is a recently released version that comes in a black plastic box.  It probably doesn't matter which version you are using though.

    I don't have a separate FET just using the EasyFET(i think it is called?) that comes with the FR5969 LaunchPad.


    I tried CCS on a host machine and it worked. Firmware was updated automatically while connecting, but with the updated firmware it still doesn't work in VMWare.

    I will be using it without virtualisation for the moment, but I really hope that this bug could be fixed in a new version.

    Hi Ben,

    Glad to hear the alternative is working. I don't know when this issue would be investigated further unfortunately. It is a bit tricky to figure out what is different about the virtualized port that causes a problem with the driver.

    Hello!

    I just want to report that I got the same problem. So here is the problem and its solution.

    I'm aware this post is already 2 years old, but If I got this problem, maybe other guys can experience the same issues.

    I'm working with a Mac Mini. My launchpad 5520 was plugged in a USB port on the Apple keyboard.

    With that setup, it seemed to take ages. I didn't let it run 2 hours, but anyway it was obviously too long.

    I used a virile "force quit" to stop CCS which wouldn't listen to my clicks otherwise.

    I plugged the launchpad in one of the 4 USB ports of the mac mini, and this time it worked fine.
