Hi!
I've just tried CCS 4.1 beta for Linux today. Unfortunately, I was not very succesful. In this post, I'd like to share what I did and what went wrong.
I installed it on an Debian GNU/Linux testing running amd64 with ia32-libs and ia32-libs-gtk packages installed. I ran the installation as root and installed it in /usr/local. Installation went without any problems.
However, it was a little confusing for me where to find the binary for CCS4. I expected it in /usr/local/bin, but apparently the binary is called 'eclipse' and lives in /usr/local/CCSv4/ccsv4/eclipse. When I started eclipse as ordinary user, it gave an error that it could not start the webbrowser (even though both firefox and epiphany are installed on my system). Furthermore, it showed me the window with the option to run eclipse as 30 day trial period, or to obtain a license.
I chose the trial option, but it immediately gave me an error that I did not have a license and showed me the window again where I can chose for 30 day trial or obtain a license. The same thing happens when I run the application as root. Thus, the 30 day trial option is not working for me. Is this a bug?
As I write this message (a few hours after I tried CCS 4.1 beta), I tried to start eclipse again, just to verify my experiences. However, this time, eclipse will not even start (even though I did not change the software installation in mean time). This time, I get the splash screen, but immediately after that I get 'An error has occurred. See the log file ....' dialog, and the program exits when I click 'Ok'.
The log file contains several entries; the last one is about a java.lang.NullPointerException at org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter.run(EclipseStarter.java:186). The complete log can be found at http://pastebin.com/RHkVts1m.
Hopefully this post is useful for the developers of CCS 4.1.
Kind regards
Admar
Admar,
Just wanted to let you know that the development team has received your feedback and is looking through it. They haven't responded yet as they are attempting to get some solutions together first.
Regards,
John
