CCS3.0 and CCS6. on same machine and dll error

I had some problems installing CCS 3.3 and had to install. I think this may have broke the link to the dll MSVCR71.dll. It exists in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. I tried to register it but it won’t let me (I’m guessing it already
is). I repaired the .NET framework and reinstalled CCS 6 hoping that would address the problem, but it didn’t.

Anyway, CCS 6 complains about it missing the MSVCR71.DLL when I close the application. I’m not sure if it is needed for builds, but it would be nice to address the issue regardless so I stop getting pop errors.

Is it supported to have the two versions installed on the same PC?  If so, any special instructions?  How would I eliminate the missing .DLL error?

The PC's operating system is Windows 7.

Thank you in advance for your time

  • Hi,

The issue you report is indeed very unusual; unfortunately CCSv3.3 is not supported in Windows versions later than XP and therefore anything can happen, especially because it must be run with Admin privileges as it modifies the Windows registry.

No, this is an unsupported configuration. People are able to run it, but in my experience I have seen all sorts of strange things happen - as anecdotal evidence, just this afternoon I was helping a colleague with his project builds and the entire windows explorer collapsed at the precise moment he closed his CCSv3.3 (CCSv6 was running). This required a reboot of his PC.

You probably already followed the details on the reference below for v3.3. That is the usual instructions we use.

When reinstalling CCS it usually installs the Microsoft runtime libraries. In your case, though, the installer may have been fooled into thinking that the proper runtime library was already installed and configured. In this case you could perhaps reinstall the Microsoft Redistributable Package or follow the advice on the following thread:

If I find any additional information about this I will reply to this thread.

    Hope this helps,

  • Thank you Rafael, Just as I expected. I will relay the information and try your suggestions.
  • Hi all,

I have re-installed 6.0 with Rafael's recommendations and am still receiving the .dll error.  Is it possible the WorkSpace can be corrupt as it is existing?  If so, how would one go about rebuilding it?  Are there instructions for doing so somewhere?

    Thank you!
