Regarding licensed version of CCSV6

Hi,

I have purchased CCSV6 3 floating license edition from TI.I have installed the same in 3 PCs.After installing it is showing as 'Free License' in the CCSV6 IDE.

I was expecting that it vl show as 'Licensed' one.Any idea on this??

Regards,

Varun

  • Hi Gautam,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have followed the steps present in the section 'License server setup'. Still am getting the same problem.

I have configured my PC as server and trying to use it as client too.is it correct?

  • Varun,

Typically you have the server running on a separate machine somewhere on the network.  It then serves up the licenses to clients.  I don't see why you couldn't have a client on the same machine as the server.

It is possible that the license server is setup correctly but CCS has found the free license first and hasn't needed to look for a full one yet.  Basically it will use the first license it finds that satisfies its requirements.  Then if it needs some other feature that isn't satisfied by the current license it will continue looking.  To see if that is what is happening what you can do is remove the free license.

Go to help -> Code Composer Studio Licensing Information.  Select the Manage tab.

Below you can see the free license location on my machine.  Look at what it shows in your dialog and then go remove that file and place it somewhere else.

Once you have done that restart CCS and see if it is able to obtain a license from the license server.  In all honestly license servers are a pain.  If you decide that you would rather have node locked (individual machine) licenses let me know and I can do a swap for you.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the Reply.I tried the steps given by you.

But still the CCS is able to fetch the license and it is displaying as 'Evaluation License' only in the IDE.!!!!

I am not interested in node locked (individual machine) licenses as my requirement demands for the floating license.

  • Hi Jhon,

One more thing i wanted to inform you.

I followed the steps given in the below link.
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../GSG:CCSv6_Running_for_the_first_time

I came across the following below Note in the link.

Note: If you still have days remaining from the evaluation period, CCSv6 will still show Evaluate License until the 90-day period is over. It will switch automatically to Full License then.

I installed CCSV6 a week ago. So as per the note for the next 83 days it will show as Evaluation License only.
It will switch to 'Full License' mode after 83 days.Is my understanding correct?

    Yes, you're very correct!

  • Thanks for the reply Gautam.
  • You're Welcome!

    Goodluck & Regards,

  • Yes there are a couple of types of free licenses. One that works with are starter kits like LaunchPads and SensorTags and another license that is time limited. The time limited is a special type of license that doesn't use a normal license file. Thus it is hard to disable it and CCS will just keep using it until the time runs out and then look for another license.
