My CCS appears to be stuck trying to finish some activities and as a result my file save or build requests are put in that queue after the earlier activities are finished.

Please find attached the snapshot of what is keeping the latest actions from being run.

How do I get out of this?

I have tried multiple kills of CCS program and one or two reboots to my machine. It doesn't seem to help. Every time it starts from the previous point where is was trying to:

Index in C/C++ Indexer
Migrating legacy project
Refreshing paths and symbols

Hello,
This is a known issue that we have not been able to fully get to the bottom of yet. Can you generate a thread stack dump file and attach it to this thread?

Hello Ki-Soo,
I tried the method mentioned in the link for capturing the thread stack dump.
However, I couldn't figure out the "Pause/Break" key on my keyboard.
I tried several key combinations with Ctrl key, but none generated the stack dump.

Please confirm that:

-you launched CCS with the -debug parameter
-you see the ccs debug command terminal
-you click on the terminal (terminal has focus)

when you press Ctrl+pause/Break, you should see some text scroll along the terminal.

If you do not, please provide a snapshot of what you see in the terminal when you press Ctrl+Pause/Break

I could not locate the Pause/Break key on my keyboard earlier.

Now that I succeeded in carrying out the ctrl-break thing, here are the logs.

Hi Neeraj,

The attached stack dump does not show any activity related to indexing, project-migration, or symbol-discovery. It is possible that these activities already completed at the moment that you've clicked Ctrl+Pause/Break. Could you give it another try? Please make sure that you click Ctrl+Pause/Break, several times, while the Progress view shows the indexing, project-migration, or symbol-discovery jobs.

Also, you are currently using CCS v7.3.0. It would be best to first upgrade to the latest available CCS build, which is CCS v7.4.0. The issues you're seeing, might already have been addressed.

Hi Neeraj,
Have you had a chance to retry creating the stack dump file and also try upgrading your CCS version?

If you have not updated to 7.4.0, you may want to wait until 8.0 is released (end of this month)

Hello Ki Soo,

After sending the crash dump (which you analyzed to tell that nothing in background was going on), I had discovered a way to side-step the issue. I did this by starting a new workspace and working in the new workspace.
As per one of your other suggestions, I do plan to try upgrade of my CCS from "7.3.0.00019" to the latest version.
I will let you know about the effect of this upgrade soon.
Please excuse my delayed response. I had found an alternative way to continue my work and was forced to devote time to other things.

Thanks for the update.

Note that CCS 8.0.0 is about to be released this week. You may want to wait for that version. It comes with a new Eclipse and CDT version. This may help with performance issues related to the indexer.

Hello Ki-Soo,

When I see details of CCS Updates available on my machine, I can't find a mention of CCS 8.0. Therefore, I haven't tried CCS 8.0.

Below is the screen grab of the CCS Update Details page.

Does updating to CCS 8.0 require some other steps?

There is no incremental update option for major version CCS releases. You need to run the full installer and install into a clean new directory.
