Hello,

the original thread on this topic is marked as closed and the solution was to use an XDC version 3.50.06 or later. Unfortunately for me this problem came back again when starting to use CCS v8.2.0.00007. When opening Runtime Object View and selecting one of the viewable modules (e.g. HeapMem in the example shown below), I'm getting an error message saying that it's an invalid address according to the application's section map.

Viewing the failing address in a Memory Browser confirms that CCS does know the symbols, means that address shouldn't be invalid.

Using ROV Classic instead of Runtime Object View isn't an alternative for CCSv8.2 anymore because in that case I only get the error message:

An error has occurred. See error log for more details.
com.ti.dvt.symbolmanager.ISymbolPackage.getSectionAddress(I)J

The XDC version used for the project is xdctools_3_50_07_20_core. Using exactly the same DSP program in CCS v7.4.0.00015 doesn't show any of these ROV problems for me.

I already did a clean re-installation of CCSv8.2 to ensure this problem isn't related to any issues that may have happened during the original installation but that didn't change anything.

Any idea on how to get ROV working for CCSv8.2 would be highly appreciated.

For testing I uninstalled all CCS versions (v7.4.0 as well as v8.2.0) on my PC and re-installed only CCS v8.2.0. Now Runtime Object View is working without this Java error message of an invalid address. In the past I always had several different CCS versions installed concurrently on my PC and that worked without any issues. I don't know what went wrong with the concurrent installations of CCS v7.4.0 and v8.2.0.

The only remaining error is the problem shown when trying to start ROV Classic. It still shows the below error message.

I tried CCSv8.2.0 with the xdctools 3.50.8.24 it comes with and ROV worked fine.
I then installed 3.50.7.20 and switched my project to use that and it still works fine for me.

I get the same message with ROV Classic.

I will need to loop in an ROV expert to help.

Manfred,
there is a file .log in the subdirectory .metadata in your CCS workspace. There should be a more detailed error message there. There might be other messages in that file, but the one we are looking for should also reference that sane function that shows up in the error message you posted. Can you try to find that message in .log and post here?

as mentioned in my own reply dated Tue, Sep 25 2018 11:47 AM the problem with Runtime Object View and INVALID address isn't reproducible anymore after I uninstalled all CCS versions and afterwards installed the latest CCSv8.2.0 only.

The remaining problem is with ROV Classic. The .log file is attached.

in the meantime I was able to reproduce the problem with the Classic ROV, and there is a bug in the interface between ROV and CCS. I don't think we have a workaround yet, but since you can use ROV2 I am guessing you are not depending on the Classic ROV.

yes, that's correct. I'm now using the 'newer' Runtime Object View and that works for me. So far I didn't find any immediate need why ROV Classic would be needed as well.

I'm going to mark this as resolved since CCS is working on a fix for Classic ROV in 8.2.
