Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Using MSP-FET430UIF emulator and target MSP4304538A evaluation board with

1) Code Composer Studio
Version: 8.0.0.00016

OS: Windows 10, v.10.0, x86 / win32

2) IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430 7.12.1 (7.12.1.987)

and get errors when try to download and debug

in IAR (first I been ask to Update the firmware now the version is 3.11.00.001 and in the device manager I see (COM17 MSP-FET430UIF -CDC)) now I get message

Fatal error: Failed to re-initialize

session aborted!

in CCS I get error message

Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device

(when test identify it find some FET device)

in FET - Por 430 error message

JTAG communication initialization.... failed
Verifying Security Fuse .................... failed
--------------- FAILED !!! -----------------

can some one rely help to solve the problem (the connection to external emulator become hard to establish)

if using older version of IDE is needed please write the number

Hello David,

Are you using a USB hub with the MSP-FET430UIF? Have you considered updating to the newer recommended MSP-FET?

1) I not use usb hub with the emulator.
2) no, the new emulator price is high and I want to continue using this emulator.

Unfortunately, the MSP-FET430UIF is not recommended for new designs (NRND), so future support will be limited. Does your JTAG circuitry match our recommendations in the MSP430™ Hardware Tools User's Guide? Are you using MSP-FET430UIF v1.3 or v1.4? Note that v1.3 does not support Spy-Bi-Wire connection for MSP430 devices with 1-µF capacitance on the reset line (described in Section 5.7.1 in the MSP Debuggers User's Guide). Also, try the workaround in #4 at the top of page 40 in the MSP Debuggers User's Guide.

If you're concerned about the price of the newer MSP-FET, then perhaps you could use the eZ-FET debugger on one of our LaunchPads like the MSP-EXP430FR2433 as an alternative. Keep in mind that these debuggers can only program 2-wire SBW and not 4-wire JTAG.
