CCS/TMS570LC4357: Which tracing options from CCS tool menu are supported/not supported, If I use XDS560v2 pro with TMS570LC43xx?

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi all,

Could you please see the figure in below and let me know, which options are fully/partially/not supported, If I use TMS570LC43xx with XDS560v2 Pro? It would really be nice, if some of you, who are already using XDS560v2 Pro with TMS570LC43xx, could share some snapshots in your reply.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Best regards,

Farrukh

  • Farrukh,

The XSD560v2 ProTrace uses the "Hardware Trace Analyzer" entry of the menu above.

Once you click on it, the CCS Debug Server will initialize the available Trace jobs and configurations available to the device. After it is finished, this entry will have a right arrow that expands with the configurable Trace options. Something similar to:

Please give this a try and see if you can work it out correctly.

Additional usage and configuration details can be seen at the section "Trace" of the Debug User's Guide page at:

    http://downloads.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/users_guide/ccs_debug-main.html

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Hi Rafael,

thank you for the fast response. I assigned this post as the customer is under time pressure.

  • Dear Rafael and Bernd,

Thank you for answering. Actually, I am planning to buy the XDS560v2 Pro for debugging/tracing features on Hercules TMS570LC43xx device. I have a few questions more before finalizing my decision:

According to www.ti.com/.../TMDSEMUPROTRACE, it seems that XDS560v2 Pro does not come with essential target adapters. Am I right?

    Whereas,
XDS560v2 STM (www.spectrumdigital.com/.../) comes with essential target adapters.

Is there a possibility to buy XDS560v2 Pro together with essential target adapters? If not, then where can I purchase necessary target adapters compatible to XDS560v2 Pro?

Many thanks for your reply in advance.

  • Hello Farrukh,

XDS560v2 PRO TRACE is a tool from Spectrum Digital we took over in our portfolio but we don’t provide all adapter variants.

Your nearest dealer is MSP KOFEL who can support you with all variations of tools and adapters. See Spectrum Digital from MSP Kofel XDS560v2

    Additional information for tool selection:

TI.com : Entry-level debug through full-capability development -> Select a debug probe by product family

The 560v2 PRO TRACE receiver allows you to capture CPU (PC and data) trace data while STM is for System Trace.

I suggest looking at this presentation for more details on the differences.

     Regards, Bernd

  • Hello Bernd,

Thank you for quick response. I have contacted MSP Kofel about the XDS560v2 Pro Trace and the target adapters. I received their reply that MSP KOFEL does not supply XDS560v2 Pro. However, they do supply target adapter of XDS560v2 STM instead of XDS560v2 Pro and they are not sure if target adapters of XDS560v2 STM are compatible to XDS560v2 Pro. This concern leads to my last question to you, are all target adapters of XDS560v2 STM fully compatible to XDS560v2 Pro?

    Look forward to your response.

    Best regards,
    Farrukh
  • Rafael,

    can answer this?

    Regards, Bernd

  • Farrukh,

Sorry about the delay; last Friday I was out of the office.

I have the adapter set below and I was able to make them work with my XDS ProTrace pod in various targets.

    www.spectrumdigital.com/.../

One important aspect about the XDS ProTrace is that it has a limited JTAG debugging performance when compared to the XDS560v2 STM Debug Probe (typically up to 6.25MHz of TCLK speed). Still very useable on typical debugging sessions but definitely not the top performer.

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Hi Rafael,

Thanks for answering my questions. I am planning to use XDS560v2 Pro Trace on Hercules TMS570LC43x Development Kit. According to my understanding, I should be able to directly connect the XDS560v2 Pro to Hercules TMS570LC43x via its on-board connector MIPIETM 60 pins (see image in below). Do I need to power the board or the board will get powered by the XDS560v2 Pro?

    Best regards,

    Farrukh

  • Farrukh,

From your other thread, it seems you already figured the answer to this question.

For others that are following this: none of the standalone XDS-class Debug Probes (XDS560v2 ProTrace included) supplies power to the target.

    Regards,

    Rafael
