CCS: TMS320C3x/TMS320C4x Support

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello team - based on this post CCS does not support the TMS320C31 or the C40 processor. Does this apply to the whole family or just those two devices? Full question below:

I’m currently evaluating the feasibility of converting a program using the Tartan Ada compiler targeted to a TI DSP ‘C40 to a PC based development environment.  My options include Code Composer Studio but the question has come up about how long TI plans to support this development environment for the old TI DSP ‘C3x and ‘C4x targets.  Can you please provide me the Code Composer lifecycle support plans for this tool with regard to the targets in question?

I’m also trying to determine the best JTAG pod available for Code Composer Studio that is hosted on a Windows 10 computer and targeted to the TI DSP TMS320C3x/TMS320C4x processors.  We have several old XDS510 JTAG pods, but most are PCI based and the computers that hosted them are no longer in use.  We also had a few of the XDS510-USB ones, but I haven’t been able to find a 64 bit driver for those to run on Windows 10.  Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

  • Alex,

I had a previous thread and off-line discussion with this customer already.  I will attempt to summarize.

Code Composer Studio never supported C3x or C4x.  You have to go back to before then when it was just Code Composer (no Studio), 20 years ago.  The last product that we had which supported C3x and C4x was Code Composer v4.10.

This toolset is not maintained has has not been touched in many years. To run these tools you will need to do it in a VM.  Last I heard the customer had the compilers working in DOSBOX.

The best bet for a debug probe with be a Spectrum Digital and see what they have.  Most debug probes for 3x / 4x were Parallel Port, PCI or even ISA.  However Spectrum may have had a driver pack for their XDS510 USB that supported 3x, 4x.  The drivers would likely be 32bit, however they are going to have to run a VM anyway so just make it a 32bit VM.  Signum Systems may also be an option.  They are part of IAR now but they also supported 3x in the past with their JTAGjet product.

    Regards,

    John
