TPS54525 in WEBENCH

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54625, TPS54525, TPS54622

I have a Webench design for TPS54525(Vinmin=8V, max 13V, Vout 5V Iout=4A) that works ok. I want to reduce Vinmin a bit, say to 6V but I cant even recompile my old design, Vin 7 to 13V. I am recomended to use TPS54625 instead. * Why doesn't Webench accept TPS54525 for this design? In march when I made the first design it was ok! * Is there any Changes made in the Webench tool after releasing new devices that, like in this case, change the recomended parts to use?
  • Lars,

Yes, there was a change in the effective maximum duty cycle that WEBENCH uses for all D-CAP2 devices such as the TPS54525. At this time, we no longer recommend using D-CAP2 parts with duty cycles above about 65%, although such designs would still be functional but with reduced transient and output regulation performance as explained in this post:  http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/non-isolated_dcdc/f/196/t/294709.aspx.

The TPS54625 is also a D-CAP2 device and should not be recommended for your design case either - thanks for bringing it to our attention. Please take a look at the TPS54622 for your 6Vin, 5Vout case.
