Hi

- Why is the two level turn off only implemented on the bottom switch? is it not necessary to a two level turn of on both switches?

- Did you use the 750342879 transformer (design Item in Altium) or 750343725  (part number in altium)

  • Hi Rolf,

The two level turn off is for shot through protection when both SiC switches are turned on. In principle implement on one side is sufficient. Having it on both will increase the board size significantly.

750343725 is used. Please see attached datasheet, and the contact engineer from Wurth is:

  • Hi Xun,

Thank you very much for the information. So the circuit is only a shoot through protection and does not protect the semiconductors in case of motor winding short to DC-. Correct?
  • Hi Rolf,

To my understanding you could swap the gate driver output in order to let the protection on the high side Switch. The UCC gate driver is symmetrical therefore you could connect G2 S2 to high side MOSFET. Then it protects motor winding being short to DC-
  • Thanks, but if I do so, the bottom switch won't be protected against shorts to dc+. I don't need the shoot trough protection. i need a protection of both switches in cas of a phase short to dc+ or dc-
  • Hi Rolf,

Understand. In that case you could copy and apply the same protection circuit for high side also. Alternatively if you are using IGBTs you could have a look at our isolated gate driver ISO5852S-Q1 which has the DESAT protection integrated.
