TIDA-01495: TIDA-01495

Part Number: TIDA-01495

Dear Sir,

We are planning to follow the TI design TIDA-01495 for 480 watt AC-DC converter..

In the technical specifications, it is mentioned that operating ambient temperature is from 25 to 55..

We are looking for industrial operation of -40 to +60 degrees Celsius operation.

Can you please suggest the limitations in the design to achieve this operating temperature and also we need to meet MIL-STD-810G vibration, EMI/EMC - MIL-STD-461F ..

Please suggest suitably to adopt your design to our requirements..

Regards

Ramakrishna, DGM, D&E-MCE

  • Ramakrishna, hello and good day. We have received your query and I am forwarding it to our Power Delivery team in India. Please understand that today is a TI holiday and we will not be able to send a detailed respond until early next week. Regarding your specific query, I can help provide some insight regarding our TI reference design strategy. The design itself is set up on ti.com for use "as is" with the expectation that customers like yourself can customize the design for your own application and use case. As is such, we'll be able to give you some specific feedback to your question, but we may not, depending on the request, do any modifications to the design to meet specific MIL or temperature grade performance requirements.

Our team will definitely provide you with responses regarding the limits to operate the design at Industrial temperatures and whether the design can actually meet the MIL standards that your outlined in your query.

  • Hi Ramakrishna,

For the extended temperature range, you need to look at our portfolio and use equivalent parts that meet your temperature range requirements. As such, the design does not have any limitation on the temperature range you have mentioned. The capacitances will be low at low temperature; so you should cross check the values. The start-up also is a potential issue you should pay attention to.

The higher temperature side is not a problem. It is only a 5 degree increase. If you have better thermal management, this can be easily managed. However, special attention is required for low temperature operation. Once the circuit get started, it will warm-up and work without trouble; but starting up is the most critical issue here.
