TIDA-01167: Reverse polarity proteccion without reverse current proteccion

Part Number: TIDA-01167
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5060, LM5060-Q1

I'm designing a system that uses a small solar panel (60watts) and a lead acid battery, and I'm thinking about using reverse polarity protection for the solar panel input and the battery input.

But most of the reverse polarity protection systems (efuses and ideal diode controllers) have reverse current protection but I require the solar panel to charge the battery as well.

So I saw this design TIDA-01167 and it looks great but the only problem that I have is that I have a limited space for my PCB board and this design requires a bunch of components and therefore a lot of space :/.

Do you guys have a solution like TIDA-01167 but a smaller size with fewer components??

I only require RPP but without RCP so that the solar panel can recharge the battery.

thank you and good day.

  • Hello Alexandro,

Yes your are right there are many components around LM5060 in TIDA-01167 to support the multiple protections required by Automotive input lines.

If you are looking for only Reverse Polarity Protection, I recommend you to use the back to back FET's with D7, Q3 and R6  as explained in user guide.

Please follow application instructions of LM5060-Q1 for designing the same.

    Thanks

    Regards
