WEBENCH® Tools/LDC1612: Simulation, hardware & system design tools forum

Part Number: LDC1612

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello!

I'm having problems trying to import the following coil design into Eagle. It seems like the coil design tool is not compatible with the newest version of Eagle by autodesk?

https://webench.ti.com/wb5/LDC/#/spirals?shape=Circular&lcTanKCapacitance=300&turns=18&layers=4&spaceBetweenTrace=3&traceWidth=3&copperThickness=1.500&dout=315&temperature=25&partno=LDC1612&voltage=1.8&x12=4.00&x23=4.00&x34=4.00

The Vias don't import and I played around with the DRC settings to get the TOP, INTERNAL_1, and BOTTOM error free but I can't seem to fix the Layer Setup error on INTERNAL_2.

I'm not completely familiar with Eagle as I use Ultiboard to do PCB work so I may just be missing something or going about the process wrong.

This is what it looks like when I open the .brd file from the coil designer export.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • Hi Sinjon,

Unfortunately I don't have Eagle to double check if you're importing the file incorrectly or if the exported files are too out of date for Eagle to open properly. Does Eagle have the option to import one of the other file types that we offer for the Webench outputs?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kristin,

I was successful in importing the Library and Schematic into eagle, it just seems like the newest version of Eagle won't import the board properly.

When exporting from Coil Designer it says CadSoft EAGLE PCB (v6.4 or newer). Autodesk acquired Eagle from CadSoft a couple of years ago if I remember correctly.

I've tried the other export types to see if Eagle can recognize those but unfortunately it looks like that won't work.

  • Hi Sinjon,

It's definitely possible that recent versions of Eagle have introduced some compatibility issues with our export tool. Thanks for finding this issue; we'll see what we can do to fix it.

I realize that this is a roundabout solution, but could you download DesignSpark PCB? It's a free tool. It may have the option to export the files to a newer version of Eagle.

    Best Regards,

  • We took a different turn on the roundabout approach and made a drawing in AutoCAD based on the parameters from the design tool.

After a couple of tries we were able to import it as a .dxf into Ultiboard and so far it's been smooth sailing since.

Thank you for your help! I'm looking forward to pairing it with an LDC :)

  • Hi Sinjon,

Glad to hear you found a workaround! Please feel free to post again if you have any questions about the LDC1612.

    Best Regards,
