CC2642R: Issue with power saving while using GPtimers

Hi,

I have an issue where the device appears to not go into standby mode when I use GPTimers in my code, I can see that only by check the current consumption

while the GPTimer is not started everything works fine and consumption is minimal, however when it is started and stopped the consumption stays around 2mA

Can anyone help debugging this issue ? I am out of ideas on what to look for.

Hi Jameel,

The GPTimer is dependent on the MCU system clock which means your device must be actively running for the timer to work, thus standby modes are disabled. Here is a relevant E2E threads and you can review the TI-RTOS 7 Kernel resources to determine if the Timer/Clock services will meet you application needs.

Okay that explains some of the issues that I see, however in my case, the timer is used once every 3 - 5 seconds and then stopped. is it supposed to effect the standby mode just because it was used once ? or is there a way to disable it entirely after each usage to get the standby mode active again ?

From the TI Drivers Runtime APIs GPTimerCC26XX.h: After GPTimerCC26XX_close(): The underlying GPTimer is turned off and the device is allowed to go to standby.

I have another question regarding the power saving, I am trying to disable the power saving while the timers are active and reenable it once they are done. is this something that can be achieved ?As I am getting a weird behavior from the MCU once I start enabling and disabling the power saving

Instead of manually controlling the Power module, I recommend that you establish its correct configuration from SysConfig and rely on other modules (such as the GPTimer) to block power modes when necessary for their functionality.
