Dear TI experts,

My customer checks the specification of CC2651R3SIPA for their next project.

Does CC2651R3SIPA support LC3 codec?

I saw another E2E thread below, the expert said that LC3 codec can be supported by 3rd party but this post is colsed about 2 years ago.

How about now? Can TI support LC3 codec now?

Hi Chase,

CC2651R3SIPA may actually not be able to support LC3 codec - it looks like a Corstx M4 is a bit too limited for most of the implementation I can see out there. One solution is to have a larger core handling the audio compression/decompression and have the CC2651R3SIPA (or other lower costs devices such as CC2340R2) handling the data transfer over Bluetooth.

Could you recommend other audio codecs for CC2651 except ADPCM which TI can support? (not by 3rd party)

Hi Chase,

Hi Chase,

I believe you could manage to run the audio/compression using LC3 on a Cortex M33 at 96 MHz, with ~150kB of RAM or more. This is an off-hand estimation please take it with caution.

I looked the DEV site you linked, there is only CC26x2R Launchpad examples, not CC26x1R exampes.

Is CC26x2R example compatible with CC2651R3?

Hi Chase,

CC26x2R and CC26x1R are not binary compatible. But examples for CC26x2R can be ported over to CC26x1R in a pretty straightforward manner.
Also, in order to ease your SW development and evaluation of the solution, I would recommend to start on the CC26x2R and migrate your project at a later point.
