CC2651R3SIPA: AW design

Part Number: CC2651R3SIPA

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am working on the pattern design for CC2651R3SIPA.

I have the following questions: In reference to guideline Figure 10-8, regarding the area enclosed by D and G:

  • Is it possible to place components there?
  • Is it possible to route signal lines?
  • Figure 10-8 shows the top surface of the board, but is it possible to place components in the area enclosed by D and G on the bottom surface?

That is all.

Best regards,

Ryuji

  • Hi Ryuji,

As noted in the data sheet ground plane should be in the area enclosed by D&G on all layers, no signals, no components. I strongly recommend adhering as closely as possible to the guidelines or even replicating the LaunchPad reference design, since even small deviations may impact performance.

    Best Regards,

    Jake

  • Hi Jake,

Thank you for answering my question.
If we were to narrow the area enclosed by D and G, how would this affect the antenna characteristics?

    Best regards,

    Ryuji

  • Hi Ryuji,

I can't say for certain exactly how the performance would shift or by how much. You can expect that if you deviate from the antenna design requirements that the result will be reduced transmit power from the antenna as it won't be as well matched to the device. The designer of the device would have done extensive simulation work and lab testing to determine the required geometry to achieve the best performance.
