CC2642R-Q1: Value of inductor connected to DC-DC SW of the CC2642R changed to 10 uH

Part Number: CC2642R-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2642R

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using CC2642R for our BLE application. Due to previous experience with CC2340, we had copied that RF design. However, after checking the schematics attached, we have observed 2 thingsWCS037C_Schematics.pdf

First, L1 inductor value is 6.8uH instead of that we have used 10 uH.
And C105 and C103 values are 10 uF instead of 22 uF

After changing the values as per recommended TI documents, we have observed connection and advertising issues. Controller resets or hangs whenever trying to complete a high request transaction in short period of time. E.g. while sending around 2000 - 3000 characters in chunks of 20 bytes of data (This involves multiple read and write transactions as well).

So my question is are these 2 changes related and how do they affect our rf operations. The 6.8 uH selection is as per TI's CC2642R BOM

Regards,
Raj

  • Hi Raj,

For CC2340, the DCDC inductor is 10 uH and the bulk capacitors are 10 uF. For CC2642, the DCDC inductor is 6.8 uH and the bulk capacitors are 22 uF.

Are you saying that when you used component values (10 uH and 10 uF) from the CC2340 reference design, you did not see any issues? And then, when you changed the values to the CC2642 reference design, it stopped working?

These values are important for a correct RF operation as they supply the RF module in the IC. Please use the correct values from the CC2642 reference design and check if you still see the issue.
