I am running a version of the Basic_BLE sample that has the display module disabled on the eval board. I am trying to have the MCU enter the standby power mode when nothing is happening. The BLE doc states "By default, all the examples in SimpleLink Low Power F3 SDK will put the CC23xx or CC27xx in standby mode if there is no task running. ". When I use Energy Trace on the debugger to look at the current consumption it is at around 1.2ma. This is far above the standby current. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I will need long durations in standby to make my product viable.

Hi !

The basic_ble example, without any change, should enter standby automatically when no BLE operations are in process. The most likely reason why you are experiencing the device not entering standby is because the debugger may be attached. Attaching the debugger prevents the device from entering standby.

Could you please run the same measurement, but instead of plugging the entire XDS110-ET debugger probe, only connect the 3.3V and the GND pins using jumpers, and re-run your measurement.

Does this imply I can't use Energy Trace to measure? I don't understand what Energy Trace is for maybe. I'm going to be manipulating power modes a lot. Is the approach to use an ammeter for all of this?

Hi William !

To the countrary, you should still use Energy Trace to measure ! Energy Trace can refer to two things : the additional components on your XDS110-ET debugging probe (see the difference with a regular XDS110 probe), and the software in CCS that allows to connect to those additional components.

I'm still encouraging you to run energy trace like you used to do, but instead of having all debugging wires connected, only connect 3.3V and GND. That will allow you to use Energy Trace and make sure that you are not connecting a software debugger that may prevent standby.

This is a known gap with the new Theia based CCS version. We are looking to address this with the next CCS release.

Thanks for the input. I can't develop on an old version of the IDE at this point. I tried changing the "Allow power transitions while running if supported (low power running)" checkbox in project properties for an unmodified basic_ble. When I do this, the project will not load onto the dev board. It seems possible I can look at the current consumption correctly if I could get this option enabled. I am submitting a new question for this and stopping this thread. Here are the dialogs I see while loading
