As I know, App Inventor 2 seems not support BLE. You can refer to here.

Thanks, that's what I am afraid of. In that case, can cc2540 work with regular bluetooth, say bluetooth 3.0? If yes, how?

No,CC254x is BLE only and cannot talk to BT3.0.

Do you have to use App Inventor 2? You may try evothings (evothings.com/.../ble-scan.html).

If you do end up wanting to develop a BLE app for Android, I would recommend looking at the sensor tag app source code: www.ti.com/.../appsAndPartners.html

Thanks to Yikai & Tim, I am now switching to Evothing for my solution. It does look simple and easy. :-)

It's good to know evothings is suitable for you. By the way, there is a green button with Verify label on it under edit box of each reply and you can press it to verify replies.
