CC2650 problems with Smart RF flash programmer

Hi everybody,

I've just started with the CC2650 launchpad, and I test it with the "ProjectZeroApp_CC2650LAUNCHXL" and "ProjectZeroStack_CC2650LAUNCHXL". At the Code composer it works fine and the program runs, but when I try to program the Launchpad, using the "SmartRF Flash Programmer 2" tool, although write process finish successfully, nothing occurs. The program doesn't run.

Furthermore, everytime that I switch betwen Flash programmer and Code Composer, it's necessary a firmware update.

When I try to write through Flash Programmer, the next alert appears:

And, when I try to debug the program with Code Composer, appears:

My versions are:

Code Composer ver. 6.1.2.00015

TI-RTOS ver. 2.13.0.06

"cc26xx_bluetooth_smart__2.01.00.44423" files.

SmartRF Flash Programmer 2 ver. 1.7.2

Surely I'm not doing all steps properly, can somebody help me with this issue?

Try to download and install latest Flash Programmer 2 version 1.7.3 which fixes this issue.

I downloaded the latest version (1.7.3) and the second problem was solved, thank you! Unfortunately, I'm still having problems with the program. I can't run the program after write it with the Flash Programmer. What's happening?

Do you download both ProjectZero application and Stack into your CC2650 Launchpad?

Yes I do. In fact I use the "multiple" option in the Flash Programmer tool. After this, I reset the board just in case.

Perhaps the problem is in the App part, because if I return to the Code Composer, I only need run the App part. So, the Stack part is intact.

I create the project in CCS loading project files from C:\ti\cc26xx_bluetooth_smart\cc26xx_bluetooth_smart__2.01.00.44423\Projects\ble\ProjectZero\CC26xx\CCS\Cloud (When I compiled this projects, hex files was generated)

This folder (cc26xx_bluetooth_smart), and another folder named "tirtos_simplelink_2_13_00_06", was downloaded from TI site. Both of them come inside "tirex_CC2650" zip file.

Now, green led is blinking! (It stops when I press button 1 or button 2). What do this program? There are something printing through Uart?

Yes, you should see something output to UART.

Aparently your program is runing ok because of blinky led, but I can't see anything through UART. On the other side, my programs doesn't run when I use Flash Programmer. Curiously, when I debug programs in CCS, programs and UART works perfectly. What would be wrong?

Not sure what is wrong with your test. I don't have CC2650LP on my hand now. Will verify if there is UART output with my hex file.

Hi Yikai Chen,

Don't worry. Whereas I follow to make tests and trying to solve the problem. At the forum I found this post from your part. I program some of the hex files that appear at the directory that you point. In my case, the folder created is not "ble_cc26xx_2_01_00_44423" but "ble_cc26xx_2_01_01_44627" (I supose that this is because version). In the hex file named "CC2640_SmartRF-7ID_SimpleNP_UART_noPM" I can see the next UART print:

I have no idea what the program does, but according to the strange characters printed, something will be wrong with the UART comunication.

Oh.. I put 115200. Is this not correct? By the way, There are some document where I can check the functionality of this hex files?

Maybe try Baudrate 57600.

The same result. I've just try 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200, 230400, 460800 and 921600. The result in all of them is negative, altough some of them show more characters than the others.

Hi Yikai Chen,

After making new tests, I think that this is not only a UART baud rate problem. Moreover if the program that you passed me runs ok in your launchpad, it will runs ok with my launchpad too. Furthermore I have a programs running ok in Code Composer (programs with UART prints), that not runs when I flash it with the Flash Programmer. What do you think?

Anyway, in order to clarify and separate the problems, I'm going to create a new post at the forum, to treat the different behaviors of the programs in debug session with Code Composer, versus written version with Flash Programmer.

After. I verify the attached FW on my CC2650 Launchpad, it works with my iPhone 6 Plus but there's no UART output.

Ok, so we would conclude that the program runs ok in my launchpad. Don't you? This hex file belong to some TI project example? I would like to see the code and the project properties, in order to reproduce it in my projects.

Have you run ProjectZero on your CC2650LP and connect to SensorTag App on your Smartphone?

Yes I have. But firmware run in debug mode using CCS. I can't write it with the Flash Programmer tool.

Yes, it looks no problem. So, you should get two hex files, one is ProjectZeroApp and another is ProjectZeroStack. Do you download them with multiple hex files capability in Flash Programmer 2 to your CC2650LP?

Yes, in fact I tried the two options available at Flash Programmer. Multiple flash images (selecting App and Stack), and single flash image (selecting App after download stack with Code Composer). None of these has worked.
