Hi guys,

I'm struggling a lot to find out the right cable to mount to the CC2650 Launchpad. After a research I found out that it use a really odd (why!?) connector called: JSC.

Now I would like to know what adapter should I get in order to transform this JSC to MHF1. I've already bought the SMA to MHF1 cable but it resulted to be not the right one. I've just tried to find a JSC-male to MHF1 just there is nothing. I did not even find a direct JSC antenna mount.

Anybody succeeded to put an external antenna? I've found this: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/murata-electronics-north-america/MM121540/490-12096-ND/4419643 but it look too big.

Hi Jaskirat,

Did you look at our antenna design kit: www.ti.com/.../CC-ANTENNA-DK2

It includes an uSMA(JSC)-SMA connector for connecting the kit or antennas to a standard SMA connector.

Hi Rachel,

So you are saying that in order to mount an external antenna I need to buy another whole kit? I would need 5 of them and here "money does not grow on trees".
I wonder why using this connector if there is no cable to convert it except this kit... I guess it's marketing so one need to buy this additional kit too.

Anyway, a single JSC-SMA cable would be appreciated.

Hi Jaskirat,

The following cables will fit on the MM5829-2700 used on CC2650 Launchpad revision 1.2:

The latter is more expensive, but made for more insertions and with lower loss.

Can you please tell me how should I proceed to mount the antenna? I cannot find information on for the Launchpad.
I understood from here: e2e.ti.com/.../435507
that I should remove one resistor and point another one, but so far I don't know exactly which one since I don't have the layout (which I already asked in e2e.ti.com/.../2016757

Hi Fredrik,

Well it is but only from a schematic prospective. There is no layout documents and on the silkscreen of the LaunchPad there nothing useful for that.

You can see the antenna, right? And the RF connector? If you follow the traces from those two it should be quite easy to figure out.

I have 2 solution for that in my opinion:
1) Rotate the C24 by 90 degrees and pretend it's C58? In addition, even if I would like to mount only C58, how do I know what value do I need to get? There is no BOM. (I can crosscheck with the SensorTag schematic but it's just additional work and not done correctly by you that you don't put the BOM of the LaunchPad)

2) Leave C24 and place C51 to C58 even if there is only one pad free near C24. So in that case I need to put one pad of C58 on top of C24.

Hi Jaskirat,

There is a small bug in the LaunchPad design, C58 was supposed to be placed on the opposite side of C24. Basically C24 and C58 is the same component, the orientation selects either PCB antenna or connector. Its function is as DC block, and the value should thus be the same regardless of position. Due to the bug you have to place the capacitor diagonally to connect the RF connector.
