CC2640: Device not booting

Part Number: CC2640

I have a CC2640 based board which was working fine since last 6 months or so. Today I programmed these devices again using JTAG and out of 6 devices, 2 devices got bricked.

The behaviour is something similar to this thread. When I insert a 3V coin cell, VDDS is held at 1.8V. VDDR is also at 1.8V. Reset line is also at 1.8V.

If I manually keep CC2640 in reset, VDDS returns to 3V but immediately after releasing the reset, it drops to 1.8V. So CC2640 is holding VDDS at 1.8V.

Can someone explain what can create such issues?

Thanks

Vinod

  • - With some extra wiring, would you be able to measure the current draw when you insert the battery?
    - Do you get the same behavior if you power the board with a supply?
    - This sounds firsthand like a hardware issue since if the battery is 3.0 V and then goes down to 1.8 V at once. VDDR should also be 1.65 V.

Even though the boards worked fine 6 months ago, could some ESD event or similar have damaged them since you used them last?
