CC2564MODA: Advice needed for the use of CC2564MODA.

Part Number: CC2564MODA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564C

We plan to use CC2564MODA for our bluetooth tube light. We know that CC2564MODA both support A2DP and BLE4.1 and we have some quesitons about CC2564MODA listed below.

(1) Can  A2DP and BLE4.1 of CC2564MODA coexist at the same time? This is important for us, because we will use mobile phone to send some command to  control the bluetooth tube light, meanwhile broadcast  musics to the bluetooth tube light.

(2) Can CC2564MODA  act both as peripheral and central role at the same time? Or do they have to act as peripheral role or central role at the beginning period of the product, and this role cannot be changed later.

(3)  Can CC2564MODA be organized into a piconet? In our product design, we imagine that  one master that broadcast the music can send audio to Seven slavers.

(4) How about the range of  CC2564MODA? 10 meters? less or more? Need I add extra PA to support larger range?

Thank you!

The unassisted A2DP and BLE can be used simultaneously on CC2564MODA. Please note that this type of use-case will significantly limit your BLE throughput since A2DP is resource intensive and gets higher priority than the BLE connection. You mentioned, you just want to send some control commands over BLE. If that is the only use for BLE, it should not affect your use-case.

The CC2564MODA (based on CC2564B IC) does not support Link Layer topology feature. Thus, it cannot act as BLE central and BLE peripheral at the same time. You can switch between the two roles as long as you disconnect the first connection and connect to second one in a different role.

Alternatively, you can use the newer CC2564C device that supports the Link Layer topology feature and can act as BLE central and peripheral at the same time.

That is not true. A2DP connection is one to one. Event though you can have up to 7 devices in a piconet, you cannot broadcast the same data to all slaves. Please refer to the A2DP profile specifications for details.

The CC2564MODA has 8dBm max output power and 1.69dBi antenna gain. Moreover, it has -93dBm sensitivity for BR and BLE modulations. This translates into excellent link budget that is more than good enough for 10 meters. You should not need an external PA for this type of range target. Additionally, the CC2564MODA has integrated antenna and it is not recommended to alter the module in any way (i.e. adding a PA/LNA in the path), which can jeopardize the module certification and performance.

    Best regards,
