RTOS/CC2640R2F: Unable to flash onto CC2640 custom board using CC2640 launchpad from CCStudio.

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640, CCSTUDIO, CC2592

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hi,

I am using a CC2640 custom board having schematic as 2146.E10114_SCHEMATIC.pdfand I am trying to flash project zero code onto the board using CC2640 Launchpad board using pin connections as follows from CCstudio:

RESET ==>RESET on custom board

TMS ==> JTAG_TMSC on custom board

TCK ==> JTAG_TCKC on custom board

TD1 ==> TD1 on custom board

TD0  ==> TD0 on custom board

GND ==> GND on custom board

I am unable to flash the code on to the custom board. I am getting the errors as shown below:

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -242 @ 0x0)
A router subpath could not be accessed.
The board configuration file is probably incorrect.
(Emulation package 7.0.100.0)

sometimes and

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -241 @ 0x0)
A router subpath could not be accessed.
A security error has probably occurred.
Make sure your device is unlocked.

sometimes.

I am using CCStudio Version: 7.4.0.00015.

Please let me know the issue and the solution for this problem.

Thanks,

Bhaskar.

  • If you use Flash Programmer 2, can it recognize your custom board?
  • Hi Bhaskar,

    Have you connected VDD-sense between your board and the debugger? If not, is the Vsense jumper mounted on the LaunchPad?

    Could you share a photo of your board and how it is connected to the debugger?

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hi Fredrik,

    Here is the photo showing the connection between our custom board and launchpad.

    We soldered only partial schematic which includes basic CC2640 circuit for intial phase. We excluded the range extender circuit on the custom board as of now for flashing test. Here is the schematic I soldered on the board as of now.

    Please also verify the complete schematic once again as I eliminated the range extender circuit and also please verify the RESET circuit and let me know the cause for the issue and solution as I am getting the same issue(not flashing).

    Thanks,

    Bhaskar.

  • Hi Bhaskar,

    In this latest schematic the reset signal is not connected.

    I cannot make out any details in the photo. Are you sure the soldering is ok?

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hi Fredrik,

    Below are the modified schematic with RESET circuit and the photo for the connections I have given for custom board from Launchpad.

    I am sure that soldering is good. I am not able to flash the custom board still. Can you let me know the issue an the solution?

    Thanks,

    Bhaskar.

  • Can you post a better photo of your board? I know what the LaunchPad looks like :-)
  • Hi,

    Here is the photo of my custom board along with layout.

    E10114_ALL.pdf

  • Hi Bhaskar,

    I am sorry to say that your layout is pretty bad. How is the IC grounded? Also the soldering does not look too good. On top of that, the crystal is rotated 90 degrees, so it is not connected to the right (crystal) pins.

    For general layout advice, refer to: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/swra640 . Keep in mind that you do need a solid ground plane and good ground connections. For the CC2592 specifically, you must follow the reference design extremely accurately or else the performance will be way off.

    Regards,
    Fredrik
