RTOS/CC2640R2F: MIC FAILURE issue

Hi All,

We are using BLE Stack 3.1.1 with CC2640R2 SDK 1.50.00.58 in my project.

Our Device acting as peripheral and sampling the sensor data at minimum 26msec.

Every sampling the device send the data to central (TI launch pad) . The connection between peripheral and central is always alive .

connection parameters are

Minimum Connection interval: 7.5msec

Maximum Connection interval: 11.25msec

Slave latency : 0

Supervision timeout: 30sec

Paring parameters: Just works(No paring algorithm)

We are facing an issue MIC Failure then connection terminated while streaming is ongoing example after 3hrs(Randomly).

Hi Thangaraj,

1) What kind of device is the master device? (E.g. Android, iPhone, TI device?)

2) How often does this happen?

3) Can you check the ICall heap when this happens (dev.ti.com/.../debugging-index.html )

4) Can you post a sniffer log of this happening?

Hi Marie,
1. TI Launcpad(cc2650) used as central device
2. Its a random behavior. some time Three hours some times more than 3 hrs and some times less than that.
3 and 4 will check and let you know.

Hi Thangaraj,

Thanks for posting a sniffer capture! I am not very familiar with Nordic sniffer, can you tell me how to set it up correctly? I opened it in wireshark and it looks like most of the packets have a mic error... (Every other packet after the connection is encrypted...)

Hi,

there is no special Setup . we are continuously streaming the data(sensors are sampling and send the data vial BLE) over BLE for more than 3 hours without disconnecting then device got disconnected with this error MIC failure

Hi Thangaraj,

Can you help me make sense of the sniffer capture? When I open it, most of the packets have MIC errors. I think I need to configure Wireshark somehow.

since the characteristics are encrypted it shows the error while capturing the sniffer.

whats the root cause for this issue ? Any Idea
when the stack will throw this error?

there was same issue discussed in the above link and TI takes that issue internally and said that post public once the issue resolved.

Hi Thangaraj,

I know that the issue you are referring to was fixed in the 3.10 SDK for the CC26x2 devices. However, there is no guarantee that what you are seeing is the same issue seen in the post you've linked. Her and I have talked and it may be related, but there isn't a guarantee.

Marie will work with you to try and solve this, but currently she is on vacation and will be back next week.

Thanks for the response.
one thing is we are using the SDK version 2.20.
but we didn't see any bug fix for this issue in the release notes after 2.20 release

Hi Thangaraj,

As Evan says, the bug discussed in that E2E thread was fixed in the SimpleLink CC13x2/CC26x2 3.10 SDK.

But we couldn't see any update on the release notes regarding this issue.
Also whats the root cause for the issue?
is it possible to have the patch for this issue to fix in 2.20?

Hi Thangaraj,

The root cause was a bug in the BLE-Stack. There is no workaround for it. I cannot provide a patch. Please update to SimpleLink CC13x2/CC26x2 3.10 SDK and retry.
