Hello,

I have issues with the "Bad Energy Trace data was detected in the data stream" error when using the Energy Trace HDR add on.

From looking at other tickets the answer seems to be that CCS cannot keep up with the sampling rate; which is an explanation but not a resolution.

Any suggestions? With this error the XDS110 ADD-ON ENERGY TRACE HDR device is basically unusable.

Also, I've noticed for the samples I do capture they are far noisier than with the basic XDS110 Energy Traceset up. I was doing a comparison with just a lone 300k ohm resistor and noticed a wild amount of noise on with the add on that I don't see with the basic set up. Is this expected?

Hi Jason,

You need PC with more than 4GB RAM to get better results.

Please apologize for the delay; I was only made aware of this thread today.

Depending on the version of CCS and its TI Emulators component, there is a reported bug that was caused when a GCC-based project that uses semihosting (printf, fopen, etc.) is being debugged. This was fixed last year, but it may affect a clean install of CCSv8.

At any rate, the newest versions of CCS or even updating this component in an older release should be enough to workaround this issue.

If that is not your case, please let me know which version of the tool you are using, as well as the setup arrangements.

Interesting that you mentioned a higher noise; not only the HDR have a higher resolution and speed ADC (which may contribute to the perceived noise floor) but there was another thread where several connection aspects were discussed. Please take a look at it and see if any suggestions there are applicable to your case.

I downloaded the latest version of CCS from the website. Same issue. Within 9 seconds I got that Bad Energy Trace Data error.

Also loaded version 9.1 on a Macbook Air that I own. It lasts a little longer but has a hard time going past the one minute mark.

Please apologize for the delay; we had a release and I was backed up here.

Thanks for sending the information about the host; I was able to see the lack of updates after a very short period of time (less than 1 min) when using EnergyTrace on our Macbook running CCSv9.1.0, the XDS110+HDR pod and Mojave OS - I don't get the data error message, though. Also, the CPU is maxed out with the fan spinning ferouciously.

I can't reproduce this issue in Windows, though.

I will try to check a few additional details and report back - most probably with a bug report.

I filed the bug report DBGTRC-5142. In about half hour, please check its status in the link SDOWP in my signature below.

I will stress the importance of this issue to the dev teams and hopefully the fix is simple. In the meantime, I will try to find a workaround (I couldn't yet at the moment).
