CC2650MODA: BT SIG EPL guideline for CC2650MODA

Part Number: CC2650MODA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BLE-STACK, CC2650, BOOSTXL-CC2650MA

Hello,

My customer is afraid that CC2650MODA users are required to do some tests when they have qualification (certification) of Bluetooth EPL (End Product Listing). Could you please advise?

The question background is that the CC2650MODA product type is not "End Product", but "Component (Tested)"

https://launchstudio.bluetooth.com/ListingDetails/8667

I tried to find our answer from SWRA601C.pdf, but it was not clear for me.

The PDF said:

  • p.2: no BLE SW stack testing is required by the customer
  • p.3: you do not have to repeat RF-PHY testing when using CC2650MODA . . .
  • p.3: QDIDs, {QDID 135680 for BLEStack 2.2.3, QDID 88415 for CC2650MODA}

I understood the two points, BLE SW stack and the RF-PHY are ready, but it was not sure for me that is all or not.

The page-2 in the PDF tells a guideline for CC26xx IC users, but I could not use it for my CC2650MODA customer.

  • Hi Hideaki,

I have assigned an expert to comment on this.

  • M-W,

    Thank you for your help.

We would wait for the next reply.

  • Hello Nambu-san,

There is separate qualification listing for PHY(1) and BLE stack(2) (Protocol: HCI, Link Layer,GAP, GATT, ATT, SMP, L2CAP).

    1:

I will check with the current QDID listing if it is still valid and get back to you.

    2:

The BLE-Stack 2.2.3 release notes provide the QDID listing:

"This SDK release is covered by QDID 135680 with expiration date 2022-07-08 and TCRL 2018-2."

  • Eirik,
    Thank you for your response.
    Please forgive my reminding.

Is it required for CC2650MODA users to do any tests when they have qualification (certification)
of Bluetooth EPL (End Product Listing) ?

I think the two items, PHY(1) and BLE stack(2) are ready, but is that all or not ? Still any tests are required ?
    - No more tests are required because we have (1) & (2) ?
    - Or, is it still required to do any test because the CC2650MODA product type is not "End Product" ?

  • Nambu-san,

The CC2650MODA PHY test with QDID 88415 is still valid. It was reassessed 2019-06-14 and is valid 3 more years after that date. Please follow the guide from the Application Note: How to Qualify Your Bluetooth® Low Energy Product and information on the BT SIG page.

If you use some adopted profiles you might have to test these, but that can easily be done with Profile Tuning Suite and the PTS dongle from bluetooth SIG:

    https://www.bluetooth.com/develop-with-bluetooth/qualification-listing/qualification-test-tools/profile-tuning-suite/

    https://store.bluetooth.com/

Otherwise you should be good to go as long as you follow the reference design from CC2650 Module BoosterPack™ Plug-in Module accurately. You might not have to do any more test, but all new products need a End Product listing to be BT SIG compliant.

  • Eirik,
I appreciate your reply, but still it sounds something difficult for me.
    Please let me confirm:

    Q1.
Do you mean that normally it is required for CC2650MODA users to perform tests
when they have qualification (certification) of Bluetooth EPL (End Product Listing) ?

    Q2.
Do you mean that an user's self-service test result using the PTS dongle is accepted to qualify the EPL ?
(I could not find the point from the linked Bluetooth site.)

    Q3.
I could not understand this sentence. Could you please tell me the point that CC2650MODA users should
learn from the eval board BOOSTXL-CC2650MA ?

  • Q1.

Generally you don't have to perform test when they list an end-product based on CC2650MODA. But I believe the adopted profiles are not tested with our QDID and you might have to provide test evidence for that if you use a adopted profile (for example heat rate, etc). But this you can do youselves with the resources mentioned above. Not test house needed.

You can try to run with Qualification Process with No Required Testing here:

    https://www.bluetooth.com/develop-with-bluetooth/qualification-listing/

    Q2.

For adopted profiles I believe you can do this yourselves.

    Q3.

You need to copy the relevant parts of the PCB layout from the BOOSTXL-CC2650MA. By relevant I mean all the part of the PCB close to the Module that can affect its RF performance.

  • Eirik and M-W,

Thank you for your responses. I'm talking to my customer.
